A walk at a favourite childhood farm

Some time was well spent at Wimpole Estate. This is home to a beatiful Hall which is at the heart of the estate and a working Home Farm in the centre of Cambridgeshire.

The Hall featured in the walk but unfortunately we didn't visit the Hall or the Farm but experienced the Grade I parkland and what nature had to offer us on that day. It was originally a deer park and is now home to a variety of wildlife and memorable walks and views. What we can't see though is the rich source of archaeology beneath the ground, its first residents are known to be the Romans!

After the visit I thought to myself I will aim to visit the Estate every season to experience it in all its glory. I love visiting Wimpole it reminds me of family walks which seemed to go on for hours, they didn't really, through the woodland, fields and back onto the parkland; overcoming my fear for cows (they are so big!) and going to the farm on school trips giving the animals some food and making butter from scratch (lots of arm work)!!

The Stable Block is very sweet and great to pop into it is home to a book shop, fudge shop, refreshments, plants and of course a National Trust gift shop.

The entrance to the Stable Block.

Driveway up to the Hall.

Wimpole Hall.

Can you spot the tiny Dragon Fly in among the grass.

Lily Pads.

Wimpole Lakes.

We walked a circle route from the Hall, through the Grade I listed Park up to some rather impressive ruins back through the parkland and to the stable block.

Wimpole Hall from the farthest point of our walk.

We stopped and refect for a spot of lunch on the way back down to the Hall.
